Feeling Blah?

the buff mom boot camp

If the weather's got you down, and you're feeling a little blah, you're not alone.

Often as the temperature drops, motivation does too.

The good news is it's almost over!:) And in the meantime we have some simple tricks to help you shift the focus from cold and snowy to positive thoughts of motivation, success, and feeling amazing.

Here are 5 ways to get energized.

  • SET A GOAL
Goals light the fire under our feet and motivate us to keep going. What about signing up for a spring 5 K, or an adventure race? Signing up now (even though it's months away) will give you a new goal and something to work towards. Or if you love cooking, set a goal of trying a few new recipes, or meal plan.
  • MOTIVATIONAL PODCASTS OR AUDIOBOOKS
I always have one playing in the car, on during my morning workouts, or even while I'm taking the dog for a walk. Try listening to The Secret or The 5-Second Rule. You can find this in I-tunes under audiobook.
  • AFFIRMATIONS
Writing out positive statements a few times in the morning and/or before bed can really help. (I love anything by Louise Hay. https://www.louisehay.com/affirmations/) Do this 5 days in a row and you'll feel like a new person.
  • REALIZE THIS IS A PROCESS
Life has its ups and downs, but what is most important is that you keep going and forgive yourself for falling off track. The best way to start again is to just start again!
  • KEEP IT SIMPLE, AND GO BACK TO THE "3" BASICS
  1. Water. If it's low you'll feel sluggish and more hungry. Get your water up to 2 to 3 L a day and notice your cravings dissipate. (The formula is 1 oz per kilogram of body weight.)
  2. Exercise. How many workouts are you getting in a week? The more you move, the better you'll feel. If things are busy at work or home, do "mini" workouts at night or during the day. Start with five minutes, but commit to doing something each night. For example, 12 pushups, 12 crunches, 10 mountain climbers - done! Soon your motivation returns and you feel great!
  3. Sleep. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day will regulate your body and give you more energy. If you have trouble falling asleep and unwinding, check out evening meditations. (I use an app called Omvana.)
Just choose one of the above and make it happen! You can do this:)
