Sheri-Lynn DaSilva, The Buff Mom Guelph

After her cancer diagnosis in 2016, Sheri-Lynn made a commitment to herself and her family to focus on her well being and a healthy lifestyle. After trying a few other fitness programs and yoga, she instantly felt a connection when she tried her first Buff Mom class in the spring of 2017. The support and sense of community was amazing and exactly what she needed to stay motivated and committed. “Being active during my recovery was so important, not only physically but emotionally as well, and being a part of the Buff Mom community has really given me a sense of happiness and well-being over the last 2.5 years”.

Sheri-Lynn is also very active outside of Buff Mom, still practicing yoga and has recently started to run, especially enjoying getting out on the trails for 5-10km runs. “It definitely pushes me outside of my comfort zone but I love the challenge!”

As a cancer survivor, Sheri-Lynn has made it a priority to give back to the cause and has participated and volunteered at many events. Her main focus is the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life with her Booty Shakers team, which over the last 2 years has raised almost $10,000. She will be participating in the event again in 2020 with her team and will also be the Team Coaching & Engagement Lead volunteer.

After inquiring about personal training in the summer of 2019, she decided to enrol in the Personal Training Specialist course this fall at the University of Guelph (which has a special connection to her as she, her husband and daughter are all alumni!) Once completed she will hold a dual certification with the University and Canfitpro. When offered the opportunity to mentor with and become an instructor with The Buff Mom, for Sheri-Lynn this was an instant yes! She feels lucky and blessed that she’s able to help coach & inspire a community that has done so much to inspire her! She’s extremely excited to teach in Guelph as it has always felt like home. Sheri-Lynn hopes to continue her education in the areas of nutrition and sports injury to better understand and coach her clients' needs.

Sheri-Lynn is married to Charles and has two children - Justin (& his wife Kali) and Lauren (& her partner Sam) who both live in Cambridge. Her and her husband love the outdoors and enjoy camping and hiking with their dog Naiya.

Sheri-Lynn is especially proud of the fact that she has just recently turned 50, and that this journey has made her the fittest, healthiest and happiest she’s ever been. “50 is definitely looking fabulous and I can’t wait to see where my new career with The Buff Mom takes me! I’m so excited to take what I’ve learned as a trainer into a group fitness setting to make it a fun, effective workout and a more personal experience”
