A Picture for Heart Health
Congratulations to Buff Mom Marg Geerts on her special paint night fundraiser in support of women’s heart health. A cause near and dear to her heart – literally.
Just three months after her 40th birthday, Marg came down with what she thought was the flu. She rested, slowed down, and went on with her routine. Four days later, she suffered a heart attack.
Emergency personal performed CPR and resuscitated her. She was in a medically induced coma for three days, and in hospital for nine.
“My message would be for women to be aware that heart attack symptoms are not the same as men,” explains Marg.
(Heart disease btw is the leading cause of premature death among Canadian women, claiming the life of 25,000 each year.)
“It’s not the traditional pain in the arm. You could have flu like symptoms, arm numbness or jaw pain.”
Following a few months of recovery, Marg completed a three-month cardiac rehabilitation program to improve her heart function and fitness level. Since graduating from that program, she’s been staying healthy and fit by attending The Buff Mom Boot Camp Kitchener location each week.
Funds from her paint night fundraiser will go to St. Mary's Hospital Red Day Event.
